Milo Yiannopoulos, a far-right provocateur, former editor of right-wing news site Breitbart News and former supporter of President Donald Trump, has been deported to the United Kingdom, the Department of Homeland Security said Saturday.
Yiannopoulos was removed from the U.S. to his home country on Friday, according to the DHS. He was arrested by immigration officials at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport the day before.
The department said Yiannopoulos entered the country legally on May 14, 2019, but overstayed his visa. He was issued a final order of removal on July 22 after failing to attend his immigration hearing, DHS said.
Yiannopoulos was a vociferous supporter of Trump and his immigration policies. At Breitbart, he made a name for himself as a supporter of Gamergate, a misogynistic online harassment campaign that has been linked to the rise of online alt-right communities and the right-wing media ecosystem.
He associated with neo-Nazis and played a major role in ushering white nationalism into mainstream conservative thought.
But his comments appearing to condone pedophilia proved a bridge too far.
