Motorhomes and campervans could be banned from parking overnight at two waterfront car parks in Plymouth.
Plymouth City Council is proposing the move for Mount Batten Pier car park and Richmond Walk car park after locals reported some vehicles clogging up the car park for days on end.
If agreed motorhomes and campervans will have to leave by 11pm and not return until 8am.
Cllr John Stephens (Lab, Plymstock Dunstone), cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, stressed that the council was not anti motorhomes.
“These vehicles take up a lot of parking spaces and reduce parking options for people visiting local businesses if they are there for several days. They can also obstruct deliveries.
“We are not banning them during the day but we need to consider everyone.”
He said introducing parking charges had been discounted for the free car parks because it was hard to enforce.
The councillor added that there was still a desire to find a dedicated site in the city which motorhomes and campervans could use.
Among other parking orders that have been proposed are merging the existing short-stay and long-stay parking areas into one at Plymstock Broadway and to introduce a monthly long-stay parking discounted ticket alongside the annual one and daily ticket.
Cllr Stephens said a monthly ticket of £60 would be easier to budget for some people although it did work out more expensive over the year than the annual one of £445.
People will still be able to park for free for three hours but have the option of paying to stay longer anywhere across the large parking area which will now have no designated boundaries.
The changes are being proposed in response to feedback from residents and businesses and are open for public comments until September 10.
