For many people, the day begins with a glass of warm water and a squeeze of lemon. The ritual feels healthy, simple and almost too good to question. Somewhere along the way, however, lemon water picked up a much bigger promise: that it can melt belly fat.
That claim sounds appealing, especially when abdominal fat is often the hardest part of weight loss. But there is an important difference between a healthy habit and a fat-burning treatment. Lemon water can fit into a healthy routine, but it does not have a special ability to target fat around the stomach.
Dr Narendra BS, Lead Consultant – Endocrinology & Diabetology, Aster Whitefield Hospitals, explained why the popular belief needs a closer look.
