Connor Barley in action for Goole Vikings
Hull FC are keen on securing a deal for Goole Vikings winger Connor Barley as they continue to build their squad for next season.
The Black and Whites are known to be looking for outside backs and they are thought to be pushing on in their hunt for a high profile figure who can provide competition for the likes of Lewis Martin and Harvey Barron on a weekly basis.
However, they are also looking to add to their depth and that’s where Barley comes in, Hull Live understands, with the Goole man set to make the switch to Super League.
A former Hull KR youngster, Barley joined Goole following a three-game spell with Featherstone Rovers at the end of last season.
The move was seen as an opportunity for him and he more than took it, scoring 20 tries in 23 games for Scott Taylor’s side.
That’s a tally that includes a hat-trick in the 80-0 win over North Wales Crusaders, while it also makes him Goole’s top tryscorer and puts him in the upper bracket of second tier try scorers this season.
Of course, Taylor is heading to the Black and Whites to work under Steve McNamara next season and it would seem as though Barley is set to follow him.
The 21-year-old’s exit from Goole was confirmed earlier this week, alongside Jeylan Hodgson and Cooper Howlett who are also Super League bound.
Hull-born, Barley came through the academy at Rovers and he made four appearances for the club during his time there. He picked up minutes while on loan at Featherstone Rovers and London Broncos, getting over the line for both outfits, before he was released to chase first-team opportunities elsewhere.
