Super League side Catalans Dragons have announced that assistant coach and the club’s former interim boss Ryan Sheridan will leave the club at the end of the season.

Sheridan was appointed as an assistant at Catalans in 2024 as he joined to work under Steve McNamara but he would end up leading the club earlier this season when Joel Tomkins departed.

The 51-year-old would lead Les Dracs for seven games, taking charge in late March and resuming that role until mid-May when John Cartwright was appointed.

Per a report from Love Rugby League, Catalans have appointed former boss Laurent Frayssinous to a role for 2027 and whilst the Dragons are yet to announce that, they have confirmed that Sheridan won’t be at the club in 2027.

Sheridan had previously coached Featherstone Rovers in 2013 but he has served more so as an assistant, working under Daryl Powell at Castleford Tigers and Warrington Wolves, whilst also working at London.

It’s likely that there will be plenty of interest in Sheridan’s services given his experience as an assistant, though Castleford could well be a landing spot for him in a head coach role given his prior connections there.

Hull FC and a return to working under Steve McNamara may also be an option as the Castleford Tigers have landed their current assistant Simon Grix for 2027.

Catalans’ statement confirming Sheridan’s exit read: “Catalans Dragons can confirm that Ryan Sheridan will leave the club at the end of the season.

“A former international player, he began his coaching career at Featherstone as an assistant coach. After also holding coaching roles at Warrington, Castleford and London, he joined the Dragons’ coaching staff in 2024 under Steve McNamara.

“He also took charge of the team on an interim basis following Joel Tomkins’ departure and before the appointment of current head coach John Cartwright.

“The club would like to thank Ryan for his contribution and wish him all the very best for the future.”
