Bar Coast and Harry’s Lounge Bar, on Old Christchurch Road, has applied for a standard Temporary Event Notice (TEN) for a boxing event, set to take place on Saturday, October 17 from 2pm to 11.30pm.
The venue’s current licence does not cover boxing and wrestling entertainment, which is why they have applies for a special licence to allow the event to take place.
Dorset Police has submitted an objection to the application due to the area’s history of alcohol-linked crime and antisocial behaviour.
The police said they feel the combination of boxing and alcohol sales could worsen anti-social behaviour and have an impact on public safety, considering the nature of the event and potential disturbances when attendees leave.
The police said that the management plan which states: “Attendance at the event will be strictly capped at 499 persons or venue capacity,” needs clarity as it includes all present, such as staff and security.
A site layout plan showing the boxing ring’s location has also been requested by the police.
The application will be heard at a licensing meeting on Wednesday, September 9.
