Three players whose LIV Golf future hangs in the balance teed up in the first stage of DP World Tour Q School – but one is already out of contention following disqualification…
As uncertainty around the future of LIV Golf continues to swirl, many of the league’s players are doing all they can to secure playing rights for the 2027 season.
While the likes of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton will have little concern about picking up starts on the DP World Tour, others are having to work a bit harder. That includes their Legion XIII teammate Caleb Surratt, who has entered a couple of HotelPlanner Tour events in recent weeks, and the trio of Luis Masaveu, Josele Ballester and Peter Uihlein, who all teed up in this week’s first stage of the DP World Tour’s grueling Q School experience.
With two rounds completed at Huddersfield Golf Club in England, Fireballs pair Masaveu and Ballester are still in the running at 2-under and 1-over respectively, but Uihlein has been disqualified after failing to show up for Friday’s third round – which is yet to get underway as strong winds wreak havoc in West Yorkshire.
Uihlein, who has represented both Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces and Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats since joining LIV Golf in 2022, carded rounds of 74 and 73 to sit 7-over-par at the halfway point. With only the top 19 and ties making it to the second stage, the American clearly decided he was too far back.
Former LIV Golf player Chase Koepka, who played with brother Brooks’ on Smash GC for two season and earning north of $8 million in the process, is also in the field and tied for 14th on the leaderboard through two rounds.
