On another stiflingly hot day at the Vuelta a España, a large breakaway fought for the stage 14 win on the infamous Sierra de la Pandera climb. King of the mountains Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious) looked good for it, but Marco Brenner (Tudor) rode a very mature race to rejoin the Colombian pure climber, and outkick his rival to the line.
This victory marks a first ever Grand Tour stage for Tudor Pro Cycling, and a proof of form after Brenner took his first WorldTour title at the Tour of Poland in the build-up to the Vuelta.
In the GC battle about five minutes behind the breakaway, Felix Gall (Decathlon-CMA CGM) and Enric Mas (Movistar) crossed the line together as Primož Roglič (Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe) lost 25 seconds in the last few kilometres. Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) – who won on the same climb at the 2022 Vuelta – lost 31 seconds after attempting an attack early in the climb, but he holds fourth overall, ahead of Oscar Onley (Netcompany-Ineos) in fifth.
