Hollyoaks has aired a dramatic moment for Tony Hutchinson after he was caught out – but not in the way you’d expect.
Last month, Mercedes McQueen’s son Bobby Costello was killed by serial killer Jez Blake after Bobby learned the truth about Jez.

Tony thinks he is responsible for Bobby’s death and, with the help of Diane, has been hiding his involvement from Mercedes, with whom he briefly had a secret fling back in June.
Tony’s fling with Mercedes came to an end when he decided he wanted to make a go of things with Diane. However, in last week’s episodes, Mercedes sent Tony a suggestive text – saying he wasn’t “bad in bed”.

In today’s episode (18 August), the McQueens prepared for Bobby’s funeral, which was being livestreamed for those unable to attend, with half of the village tuning in.
Sienna told Mercedes that John Paul admitted to being there when Bobby died and that John Paul was having flashbacks. After Mercedes told him to “get talking”, John Paul rushed off to the pub.
After coming to the wrong conclusion, a heartbroken Mercedes burst into the pub. “It were you, weren’t it?” she asked. “You’ve been acting weird ever since Bobby’s death.”
Tony was stunned, thinking that Mercedes was talking to him, but she turned to John Paul and blamed him for killing Bobby.
John Paul recalled his flashback, saying “it was a man’s voice. I think I recognised it”, before saying he didn’t know who it belonged to.

When John Paul told Mercedes he would never hurt Bobby and that he loved him like he was his own, she realised he wouldn’t have murdered her son.
An emotional Mercedes asked Tony to go with her to the funeral, saying: “I could just do with a mate right now.”
As the village gathered to watch the funeral online, Diane caught Ant and Dee Dee secretly streaming the event, despite telling them not to.
When Dee Dee grabbed the tablet back from Diane, the text message from Mercedes to Tony flashed on the screen, leaving the Hutchinson family stunned.

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays – Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
