The 156th running of the Travers Stakes is now less than a week away.
Following the draw, Sovereignty is the favorite in the small field of five. He’s won at Saratoga before, having prevailed earlier this year in June’s Belmont Stakes and last month’s Jim Dandy. Sovereignty also won the Kentucky Derby this year.
A win for Sovereignty would be trainer Bill Mott’s first Travers Stakes win. Junior Alvarado will be the jockey.
Sovereignty drew the fourth post; he’s joined in the field by Magnitude on post one, Bracket Buster on post two, the Chad Brown-trained Strategic Focus on post three and McAfee at post five.
In all, 14 races are on the card this Saturday, starting at 11:10 a.m. Gates open at the Spa at 9 a.m.; the Travers Stakes is Race 13 on Saturday.
