The Gardaí have announced security and travel details for this weekend’s Amgen Irish Open, with US President Donald Trump expected to arrive at Doonbeg four the tournament.
A significant Policing and Security Operation is taking place at the Trump International Golf Links and Hotel commencing this evening.
The tournament will continue as normal during the policing and security operation, however Gardai have warned that there may be additional restrictions on movement around the golf course and hotel during the policing and security operation.
A statement from the Gardaí read: “Persons working at the event, volunteers, media attending the Amgen Irish Open must follow specific advises provided for their role and use the appropriate assigned parking.
“Spectators should continue to follow the extensive information and advice provided by the DP World Tour.
“Spectators will continue to have access to designated park n ride facilities and bus transfers to the venue.
“Access to the event is via Bus transfers from the Park n Ride sites ONLY. There is no general parking available at or in the vicinity of the golf course. There is no pedestrian access to the Amgen Irish Open.”
The statement also confirmed that spectators attending the weekend’s action will be subject to enhanced person and bag searches will be in operation on entry, and that there will be airport style security searches and scanning.
Small bags and small backpacks/rucksacks, or similar, will be allowed onsite.
Gardaí have already confirmed that the visit Trump this weekend is one of the biggest security operations they have ever put in place.
The force has declared an extraordinary event and it will see gardaí perform 10,000 12-hour shifts between today and Sunday.
