Tokyo 2020 Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev, the top seed, meets American Ben Shelton for the title.
Zverev arrived in New York having finally grabbed a maiden Grand Slam title by winning the French Open at Roland-Garros in June. Shelton, the eighth seed in New York, is through to the first Grand Slam final of his career after knocking out defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in an epic quarter-final clash.
The German leads their head-to-head 5-0. The two have never met at a major, and their last meeting came at the ATP Finals in 2025.
Zverev beat Karen Khachanov in straight sets in the semi-finals, 6-3, 7-6(7), 7-6(6). Shelton needed four to overcome fellow American Frances Tiafoe, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5.
For Shelton, one more win would end a long drought: no American man has won a Grand Slam title since Andy Roddick at the 2003 US Open.
