Andy Last has praised Hull FC young gun Lloyd Kemp after a ‘top drawer’ performance away at Leeds Rhinos on Friday night.

The teenager played the full game in his new hooker role – a position he has taken to like a duck to water in recent weeks, with the player playing his part as Hull ran out 18-12 winners in the final game of their 2026 season at Headingley.

But then given Kemp’s completeness and willingness to dig in no matter where he plays – whether half-back, full-back, centre, and now the middle of the field – it should come as no surprise. That’s the 19-year-old in a nutshell: he’s tenacious, gritty, committed, and full of determination.

Possessing the heart of a lion, Kemp stood tall for Hull at dummy-half, defending tough, distributing well and running to effect, scoring a crucial second half try that put Hull back into the lead. He led the way as FC dug deep to round off what has been a disappointing year in a satisfying way.

“His performance was top drawer,” Last said. “Leeds spotted him up but he constantly made his tackles and he constantly kept moving. His service was good and he also ran from dummy half.

“He was creative, and he was diving on loose balls. It was just a real wholehearted display from Lloyd and I’m really pleased for him.

“The lads who weren’t playing, Batch was in the crowd, Cade Cust, his brother Callum, and Will Pryce, and they were all willing him on. He’s looking over to them. He’s just a credit to himself and his family. I’m really pleased with how he played.”

Asked why Kemp got the nod to start at Leeds, moving to the 13 from the interchange in place of Amir Bourouh, Last added: “It’s probably going all the way back to pre-season. He’s trained really hard every single session and he competes hard in every game that he plays.

“He’s unbelievably fit, and he showed enough in that 60 minutes in Toulouse where I thought this kid is capable of starting at nine. I trust him. He’s a great kid and a joy to coach – he’s a really coachable lad.”

Last also praised fellow Hull young gun Logan Moy, who has been ever present in the side since coming into the fold in March.

Arguably FC’s most committed and energetic player, Moy again led the way at the back. He was safe under the ball, scored a fine try, and was busy with his carries and metres as he has been all season.

“He competes hard and he carries the ball plenty,” Last said of the Hull full-back. He’s really safe under the high ball. He’s committed. He maybe lacks some inches in height, but he gets off the crowd, and he’s positive. He commands them and he claims plenty.

“But just the industry that he plays with, he wants to impact the game in a positive way and he competes really hard. He’s been a real success story for us.

“He’s finished the season as our number one and he’ll certainly be an asset for us moving forward.”
