The average attendances for each Super League are now finalised after the conclusion of the regular season – with Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC, and Hull KR making up the top four.
The competition has set many records for attendances this year, most recently confirming a regular season record for a 14-team, 27-round competition, with over 1.8 million fans flocking to games throughout the year.
Meanwhile, the best average attendance came at Wigan, with the Warriors, who clinched the Super League League Leaders Shield last week, falling just 63 short of a 16,000 average for the season, coming in at 15,937.
Leeds Rhinos, who finished second, saw an average of 15,809 at Headingley, while arguably the most impressive figures come next at Hull FC.
The Black and Whites endured a disappointing season, finishing 11th in the table. However, their fans have continued to back the club, who have averaged a crowd of 13,119 at the MKM Stadium.
Then again, club co-owner Andrew Thirkill once said there are three big clubs in rugby league: Wigan, Leeds, and Hull. And on the attendance front, who are we to argue?
Hull’s cross-city rivals, Hull KR, come next, with the Robins recording an average of 11,628 at Craven Park for their 12 home games. The Robins sacrificed a game to play in Las Vegas earlier this year.
Interestingly, the two Hull club numbers combined are 24,747 for the season – a highly respectable number for the rugby league-mad city.
Also boasting five-figure averages are St Helens and Warrington Wolves, who averaged 11,381 and 10,388, respectively.
Catalans Dragons fell 56 short of a 9,000 average despite a poor season, while four more clubs – Leigh Leopards, Wakefield Trinity, Bradford Bulls, and Castleford Tigers – all saw 8,000-plus averages.
York Knights, who finished 10th after winning a third of their games in their first Super League season, averaged 5,849.
Another promoted side who exceeded expectations on the field was Toulouse Olympique. The French side managed ten wins throughout the year to finish eighth and averaged 4,870 fans at the Stade Ernest Wallon.
Bottom of the attendance pile are Huddersfield Giants, who averaged 4,798 in their final year at Accu Stadium. They will relocate to Dewsbury Rams next season.
