One man linked with the vacant Castleford Tigers head coach gig has conceded that it would be an ‘interesting job’ but ultimately ruled himself out of contention.
The Tigers remain without a head coach after parting ways with Ryan Carr on August 21st, a just under three weeks after they announced that he would not be in the dugout for their round 22 game against Hull KR.
They’ve since brought in former Huddersfield boss Luke Robinson as one assistant for 2027 as well as Hull FC assistant Simon Grix, however, they are yet to appoint a head coach.
Plenty of names have been mentioned and Paul Rowley, the former St Helens boss, is believed to be the ideal target, though he remains contracted to St Helens and any move for the ex-Salford boss would likely require a fee.
Another two names that have been mentioned are the Walker brothers from down under with Ben and Shane Walker developing quite the reputation as a coaching duo.
The pair spent the 2026 campaign in charge of Queensland Cup club, Western Clydesdales, and they’re among the names being linked to the vacant job at Wheldon Road.
Walker brothers likely out of the running for the Castelford Tigers’ job
It’s unclear if Castleford had made any approach but when contacted by Serious About Rugby League’s sister site, The Yorkshire Evening Post [YEP}, Ben Walker ruled himself out of the running.

A former Leeds Rhinos player, he told the YEP: “Cas would be an interesting job,” though he added: “I will more than likely pass on Cas for now.”
With the brothers having worked as a duo, one ruling themselves out likely rules out the other, so it would seem that pairing won’t be heading to Castleford for 2027.
Whilst an impressive coach in his own right, Ben Walker is perhaps becoming better known for the exploits of his son, with the ex-Rhinos man being the father of Sam Walker.
Walker made his State of Origin debut for Queensland this year and he’s helped lead Sydney Roosters to the play-offs alongside Hull FC signing Daly Cherry-Evans.
