Young playmaker Luca Walsh, whose exit from St Helens was confirmed last week, has quickly been snapped up by another Super League side.
The French half was one of eight players whose departure from St Helens announced last week , with those exits headlined by retiring duo Jonny Lomax and Mark Percival, as well as playmaker Jackson Hastings.
Despite Hastings’ ban at the end of the season, fellow half Walsh didn’t get to make a Super League debut for Saints but he could land that opportunity next year after signing a deal with Catalans Dragons.
Walsh was picked up by St Helens after impressing playing with his community club back in French, securing a trial with the Saints’ academy in 2025 before signing on as a first-team player for 2026.
He ultimately wouldn’t make an appearance but his Super League journey isn’t over, with Walsh becoming the latest Catalans Dragons’ recruit.

Speaking on joining Les Dracs, Walsh said: “I’m really happy to be joining Catalans Dragons and very grateful for the trust the club has shown in me. I can’t wait to get back on the field, meet the squad and start this new adventure. I’m approaching it with a lot of enthusiasm, a smile on my face and a real determination to give my very best. I’m very proud to become a Dragon.”
Head coach John Cartwright added: “Luca is a young French boy who has spent some time with St Helens in a full time environment. He would have benefited greatly with that experience. He adds to our growing list of home grown talent.”
