BBC viewers saw Anna, Beth and Emma compete for the coveted gold mannequin trophy on Tuesday night. After weeks of testing challenges and tasks, the three finalists pulled out all the stops to try and impress judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young.
During Tuesday’s episode of the BBC show (September 15), the finalists were given three nail-biting challenges to complete before the winner was crowned. Firstly, they need to make a bow tie and a cummerbund in the pattern challenge before turning tableware into chic beach club fashion in the transformation challenge.
Finally, they need to make a made-to-measure outfit for their close friends, as Anna was working alongside her musician friend, Beth was making an outfit for her school friend, and Emma was creating a garment for her best friend since university. Inspired by the Met Gala, the theme was metamorphosis for their final challenge in the competition.

Presenter Sophie Willan explained that within their five and a half hour timeframe, the judges wanted the finalists to: “Create an outfit that embodies transformation, reinvention and change.”
Contestant Anna was basing her look on the lifecycle of a Damselfly, which has bright iridescent colourings. She commented, “When they mate, they join together in the sky. I’m just taken aback by how beautiful it looks.
Meanwhile, Beth took inspiration from the Brothers Grimm story revolving around the daughter who could spin straw into gold from the Rumpelstiltskin tale.
Emma, on the other hand, wanted a garment to ‘celebrate women’ and opted to make two outfits, which would be a transition from a ‘mum on the run’ to then being ready for a ‘night on the town’.

Before the winner was announced, past contestants from throughout the series returned to look at the final garments, along with Anna, Beth, and Emma’s family and friends.
Speaking about the contestants, Patrick told Sophie, “Beth has certainly made the decision more difficult than it was looking this morning. That is a phenomenal made-to-measure. It hit the brief, fit her beautifully. That being said, Anna’s was also incredibly elevated; her model was emerging from this shell.”

Regarding Emma, Patrick explained that he could see many ways she could’ve made it a lot better. While calling it ‘ambitious’, he confessed it wasn’t perfectly thought through. Sophie highlighted that it was between Beth and Anna as Patrick remarked: “It’s been a few years since we’ve had a final this close, this week, we’re choosing an overall winner from the three challenges.”
In the end, Anna was crowned the winner, as their fellow contestants rushed to congratulate them.
