The event, at Bar Coast and Harry’s Lounge Bar on Old Christchurch Road, is due to take place on Saturday, October 17.

The venue submitted an application for a temporary event notice (TEN) for the boxing from 2pm to 11.30pm.

The current licence for the venue does not cover boxing and wrestling entertainment.

The plans were heard at the licensing committee meeting on September 15.

An objection to the application came from Dorset Police, who raised concerns about the area’s history with alcohol-related crime and antisocial behaviour.

They voiced concerns that the addition of alcohol sales at the boxing event could exacerbate issues impacting public safety.

James Gordon, the owner of Bar Coast and Harry’s Lounge Bar, told the committee: “We have taken feedback on board and believe we have now created a robust plan.

“The event will be held from the afternoon until 10pm so the necessarily a hotspot time for anti-social behaviour.

“We have implemented a request from for ticket sales to know how many people are coming for a particular bout so we know how many people are coming and going at what time so we can put procedures in place to make sure everyone doesn’t leave at once.”

Councillors were told that total capacity for the event, is expected to be 420, plus the team involved.

Sergeant Mike Woods of Dorset Police expressed further concerns, stating: “Concerns still remain about dispersal as we can’t guarantee people won’t all leave at the same time.”

“Heatmaps show ASB tends to take place after 10pm, but crime and disorder is not by appointment but with the additional security measures I am more reassured than I was.”

In response to a question from a councillor about additional police patrols on the event day, Sergeant Woods stated: “There will be no additional resources, but there will certainly be officers on the ground”

The licensing committee will make a decision in private before publishing a decision in five working days.
