Ahead of the Super League play-off eliminators, Wigan Warriors have released a statement announcing exactly how many seats they will allocate to the away team at next week’s play-off semi-final, in what is an apparent attempt to get ahead of any possible issues that occurred in 2025.

The lowest-ranked winner from the play-off eliminators will travel to the Brick Community Stadium a week on Saturday, meaning either Wakefield Trinity, Leigh Leopards, or Hull KR will take on Wigan.

Wigan have confirmed in their statement that the away team will be allocated 5,000 fans, more than double the 10% minimum that Rugby League Commercial (who oversee play-off games) dictates they must allow.

Whilst the Warriors’ statement does not make any reference to it, it is believed that the statement has been released after Wigan last year received a letter from Leigh Leopards’ owner Derek Beaumont threatening to withdraw from the play-off semi-final over their allocation.

Per Wigan, Beaumont informed them that Leigh would not fulfil the fixture in protest at the ticket allocation, which was set at 4,600 unreserved seats or 5,400 reserved seats in the North Stand – an allocation that the Warriors claimed was determined by the ‘independent Safety Advisory Group and our Ground Safety Officer, following consultation with the police’, whilst also being endorsed by Super League.

Beaumont would respond via a 4,465-word statement and ultimately the game would go ahead, with Wigan winning and progressing to the Grand Final, and now the Warriors have set their stall out for this year’s play-off semi-final.

Wigan Warriors confirm semi-final away allocation

It’s still to be seen if Leigh will be the team visiting them but Wigan have confirmed that they have set the away allocation at just 5,000 seats in the North Stand, 400 less than last year’s offer to the Leopards.

The Warriors’ statement can be read here in full or seen in the embedded tweet at the foot of the article.

It read: “Wigan Warriors looks forward to welcoming whichever Club is successful in this weekend’s fixtures to The Brick Community Stadium for our Betfred Super League Play-Off Semi-Final on Saturday 26 September.

“As we prepare for another thrilling contest at The Brick,,our priority is to provide a fantastic atmosphere in a safe environment for supporters of both Clubs. We have therefore made the entire North Stand – approximately 5,000 seats – available to supporters of the visiting Club.

“This represents more than twice the number of tickets required to be made available under Rugby League Commercial’s 10% allocation rule.

“That allocation has been determined following professional advice from our Ground Safety Officer and the relevant safety authorities. We hope and expect Rugby League Commercial to support our Club in following the professional safety advice and in putting the safety of supporters first.

Whichever team earns its place this weekend, its supporters will receive a warm welcome to The Brick and we look forward to a full stadium, a brilliant atmosphere and a semi-final that showcases the very best of Rugby League.”
