Parts of two hospitals in northern Lincolnshire will receive a multi-million pound refurbishment, which will see two operating theatres get a makeover and enhancements made to an outpatient department. Lincolnshire and Yorkshire contractor Hobson & Porter has won £2.3m worth of contracts to deliver the projects across the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust hospitals.
Work has already begun at Scunthorpe General Hospital, where two ultra-clean canopy theatres are being refurbished. The work involves a full strip-out and facelift while live operating theatres remain open during the work.
A project at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby will deliver a new paediatric audiology room, control room and waiting area within the main outpatient department. The audiology project will involve demolishing part of a building, mechanical and electrical services installations and specialist audiology fit-out works.
This part of the hospital runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so the project requires phased programming, careful isolation strategies and close coordination to minimise disruption. The Scunthorpe project includes significant alterations, plant room adaptations, air handling unit (AHU) installations, and full upgrades to floor, wall and ceiling finishes, meeting stringent clinical and infection control standards.
Work has been completed on the first operating theatre, and the refurbishment of the second operating theatre runs from this month to February 2027. The contracts follow Hobson & Porter’s recent refurbishment of an MRI room at Grimsby’s hospital.
