In a new ranking of the 13 top such venues, The Times has ranked Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort near Calne at number 12.
The list is seeking to offer what author Helen Ochyra says is what “the most discerning” look for – balancing quality golfing with quality accommodation.
Bowood finds itself among “the very best”, alongside historic Scottish venues such as Gleneagles to Ryder Cup venues like The Belfry in Warwickshire.

The Times praises Wiltshire’s golfing hotspot for the quality of its course and its “sumptuous” hotel, with its adventure playground an added bonus for kids.
