Wigan Warriors have put an end to any doubt over if forward Patrick Mago was actually homesick with the Super League confirming a new deal for their overseas star.
A report from down under had suggested that the 2026 Super League ever-present was ‘homesick’ and could be slated for a return to the NRL, despite having options on his contract to stay.
Wigan have seemingly activated those options with a new deal confirmed that locks Mago into a new deal with the Warriors until the end of the 2028 season, with the club holding an option for the 2029 season as well.
After joining ahead of the 2022 season, it means if Mago sees out the full length of the contract, including the club option, he would have spent eight seasons in cherry and white.
Since joining back in 2022, Mago has played 150 appearances for the club with a remarkable 146 coming off the bench. All 27 of his 2026 Super League appearances have come off the bench, with Mago often proving to be a gamechanger with his impactful stints.
It’s for those reasons that the club have signed him to a new deal, with head coach Matt Peet telling the club website: “Patrick has become a really important member of our group. His contribution on the field is there for everyone to see. He brings power, skill and physicality, and I think we’ve continued to see him develop as a player during his time at Wigan.”

“It was a really easy decision for me, I’ve got my family here and Wigan is all we know, really, and we have made a lot of friends here.”
Paying tribute to the club’s fans, he added: “I can’t thank the Wigan fans enough, so thank you for your support. I am really happy to be staying and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together.”
