Leigh Leopards have confirmed a new deal for off-contract prop forward Ryan Brown, who follows in the footsteps of Gareth O’Brien in penning a new deal at the club.

The Leopards had previously announced which players would depart at the end of the season, confirming the exits of several key players, but three players without contracts for 2027 were not named.

That trio was Gareth O’Brien, Ryan Brown and Matty Davies, with the first two now having signed deals for 2027, meaning Davies is the only member of the 2026 squad whose future is undecided.

Still only 21, Brown has had his first real taste of Super League action in 2026, making a total of eight appearances for the club, the first of which was his debut.

Brown joined from local rivals Wigan at the end of the 2024 season and then spent 2025 out on loan with Barrow, for whom he also played in 2026, as well as short stints at Salford and Widnes Vikings.

With injuries hitting Leigh’s pack, he ended up making eight appearances himself before falling to injury but he’ll go around again in 2027 after signing what is understood to be a multi-year deal.

Leigh Leopards sign Ryan Brown to new deal

Confirming the news, a Leigh statement said: “Leigh Leopards are delighted to confirm that Ryan Brown has extended his contract with the club.”

Head coach Adrian Lam labelled the 21-year-old an ‘exciting young prospect’, stating: “It’s brilliant for the club to have extended Ryan’s contract. He’s a very exciting young prospect with a very high ceiling.

“He’s one of the nicest guys off the field, but when he crosses that line there’s a lot of fight in him and I think that’s going to be part of what makes him a top middle.

“He saw a lot of opportunity this season because of a really bad injury crisis at the club and never let me down. Had he not joined the list of injured players, he would have made a lot more appearances, but I’m really excited for Ryan next season and beyond.”

Speaking on his new deal, Brown said: “I’m buzzing. I love it here, I love all the boys and the coaching staff.

“Looking back on the year, I’ve had a good year. I’ve had my first taste of Super League and it’s made me hungry and I want more.”
