Brandel Chamblee and Paul McGinley disagree about Scottie Scheffler after his Presidents Cup struggles

Scottie Scheffler flattered to deceive once again at the Presidents Cup at Medinah on Thursday.

Scheffler did manage to win a point for Team USA alongside his good friend Sam Burns.

However, the world number one was nowhere near his best as he struggled to replicate the kind of form he showed throughout the 2026 season.

Scottie Scheffler has always struggled when playing in professional team events, and that was no different on day one of the Presidents Cup on Thursday.

In many ways, Scheffler and Burns winning a Presidents Cup point on Thursday masked the world number one’s struggles at Medinah.

Scheffler is under more pressure to perform than anyone else this week at Medinah, and it seems that the weight on his shoulders is proving to be extremely heavy.

In spite of Scheffler’s underwhelming display on Thursday, it will be very much an uphill battle for the international team if they are to have any chance of winning this week at Medinah.

When discussing the difficulties the internationals face during an appearance on The Golf Channel, Chamblee highlighted the strength of Burns and Scheffler as a partnership.

“Well, now you’re going up against Sam Burns, who could have easily won a couple of majors this year, and you know, you’re going up against Scotty Sheffler, who is, by far, the best player in the world,” Chamblee said.

However, McGinley did not agree with Chamblee.

“The best player in the world, but not the best team player. His team play record is very average, Brandel,” the Irishman said.

“And again, I’m not intimidated playing Scottie in match-play compared to what I am in 72-hole events. There are two different players there. He hasn’t proved himself yet in team events.”

Chamblee then fired back at McGinley, saying: “He hasn’t, but again, in the long run, you know, you check back in with me in about 15 years, and we’ll take a look at Scottie Scheffler’s record.

“We can say the same thing about Tiger Woods at the Ryder Cup with his match-play record.

“But, you know, I think there are a couple of things in play there, and maybe it’s applicable that when someone gets paired with the number one player in the world, they don’t play their best.

“But that wouldn’t be the case with Sam Burns today. Sam Burns played some really good golf, I think, Sam played really good. He buoyed Scottie Scottie Scheffler today.”
