Owners of Thai In Town, in Queens Road, Hastings, has shared CCTV footage on Facebook which appears to show a man kicking a glass panel in their front door.

The business also shared images of the smashed glass.

The Thai takeaway said the incident happened on Sunday, September 13.

In a post on Facebook, the business said: “At 6.50am on Sunday morning, someone thought it was a good idea to smash our glass shop door, seemingly for no reason other than to cause damage.”

Owners said the damage had created financial difficulties at a time when many businesses are already facing economic pressures.

The post continued: “It may have been a very small, mindless and destructive action to them, but it has now caused a big ripple effect for our business.

“It is hard enough to make ends meet in today’s economic climate, and this senseless act will unfortunately set us back financially.”

Thai In Town said it had always been proud to be part of the Hastings community and expressed disappointment at finding itself in such a situation.

The business has asked anyone who recognises the individual captured on CCTV to get in touch so that any information can be passed to police.

The owners wrote: “We would really appreciate your help in identifying this individual.

“If anyone recognises them or knows who they are, we would be incredibly grateful if you could let us know so that we can pass the information on to the police and let them deal with the matter appropriately.”

Hastings Police commented underneath the restaurant’s Facebook post, urging the business to report the incident. In response, the business said it had now contacted police and thanked officers for their help so far.

Despite the incident, the restaurant sought to end its message on a positive note.

It said: “We believe that negativity only creates more negativity. So, may this senseless act end here with us.

“We wish our community love, unity and harmony, and hope that together we can continue to build an even better town for everyone.”

Anyone with information can contact Thai In Town through its Facebook page or report information to Sussex Police.
