Kylie Kelce used today’s edition of her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast to apologise to the Princess of Wales for having referred to her as “Princess Kate” in a previous episode.

“I love learning, so I was unaware that calling Princess Catherine Princess Kate was offensive,” the 34-year-old said. “I didn’t know that. Now I know that. Now I will proceed accordingly.”

She described the slip as a genuine mistake and expressed her desire to address people properly.

“I apologise for the mistake. I would like to refer to people in the most respectful way and how they feel respected,” she added.

Mrs Kelce then spoke directly to the royal: “Princess Catherine, or the Princess of Wales, I apologise. I will get that sorted immediately, starting now.”

The apology stemmed from remarks Mrs Kelce made on the September 24 instalment of her podcast, when she extended an open invitation to the Princess of Wales.

“Princess Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, if you ever wanted to come on and chitchat about some field hockey and maybe kids. I don’t know. We got a couple things in common,” she had said at the time.

Mrs Kelce also pointed out that their respective husbands had already crossed paths on air.

“Our husbands chitchatted on the other podcast,” she noted, a reference to Prince William’s appearance in July on New Heights, the podcast hosted by her husband, retired NFL star Jason Kelce, and his brother Travis Kelce.

The original invitation drew attention both for its warmth and for the naming error that Mrs Kelce has now sought to rectify.

Catherine’s formal title has been Catherine, Princess of Wales since September 2022, when King Charles acceded to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince William inherited the Prince of Wales title.

Prior to that, she held the title Duchess of Cambridge following her 2011 marriage.

The question of Kate versus Catherine, however, predates her entry into the Royal Family. Veteran broadcaster Simon Vigar previously told GB News: “Friends in sixth form and uni called her ‘Kate’ – as William did – but to her family and childhood friends, she was always Catherine.”

The Channel 5 royal correspondent added: “In the engagement interview in 2010, William calls her Kate, but very soon after that, we were getting briefed.”

“Her family have always called her Catherine,” he concluded. “She’s definitely Catherine.”

Mrs Kelce also conceded that a royal guest might require her to rein in her famously colourful vocabulary.

After reading out a listener’s comment suggesting the Princess of Wales “is too refined and beautiful to be subjected to your cursing,” she agreed without hesitation. “First of all, you’re correct. Agreed,” she said.

She was nonetheless keen to temper expectations around the invitation. “I don’t think that anybody owes me anything. Let me emphasise that,” she said, adding: “Do I think she has time to hop on this podcast? No, I do not.”

As for whether she could restrain her language in royal company, Mrs Kelce insisted she knows how to read a room. “Would I curse at her face? No,” she said.

“At the end of the day, I am respectful of the situations that I am put in, at least being respectful to the people I am speaking to.”
