A cause of death for Chad Lowe’s daughter Fiona, who died at the age of 13, has been revealed.

It was announced this week that Fiona had died, with her family saying they were ‘deeply heartbroken’ while paying tribute to their second daughter.

Fiona, who was also the niece of Hollywood actor Rob Lowe, died at a hospital in Los Angeles on Tuesday, just weeks before she was due to celebrate her 14th birthday.

The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner has now revealed her manner of death to be suicide. She was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:14am on September 29 and her body can now be released to the family.

Alongside their statement on Wednesday confirming Fiona’s death, the Lowe family included details for the US 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline for those struggling with their mental health.

Sharing the heartbreaking news, they said: ‘She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents.

Chad, 58, shared Fiona and two other daughters with wife, Kim Painter; they are also parents to Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10.

Fiona would have turned 14 in November, and for her birthday last year, Chad shared a sweet message on Instagram to mark the milestone, writing: ‘Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!! Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!!’

The family’s lives were uprooted in February 2025 when they lost their LA home in the Palisades wildfires.

Chad shared a photo of them embracing while visiting the property’s ruins and said he was proud of how his daughters coped with the crisis.

The actor wrote: ‘Almost a month after we evacuated our girls finally got to go back to see what’s left of their home.
