Pendle 1612 is a docu-horror feature by Blackburn-born filmmakers The Bashford Twins, Kyle and Liam Bashford, who returned to their home county to bring the chilling story to life.

Filming began last week with scenes already captured in Pendle.

Crews spent a day filming on Pendle Hill with plans to return next week.

The film follows three young women who travel to Pendle to investigate the disappearance of one of the women’s sisters, last seen in the area.

Their documentary takes them into the dark history surrounding the Pendle Witch Trials of 1612, where their search for answers takes an increasingly disturbing turn.

The cast includes Maddie Evans (House of the Dragon) as Amy, Preston‘s Ella Moss as Hannah, and Gemma Laurie (Shetland) as Meg.

Andrea Lowe appears as Sarah, with Craige Els as Detective Marsh.

Kyle Bashford said: “Growing up in Blackburn, we’ve always wanted to come back and make a feature film in Lancashire.

“We’ve spent years working in the industry, but bringing a production home and telling a story so closely connected to where we’re from means a great deal to us.”

Liam Bashford added: “The Pendle Witch Trials are such a fascinating part of Lancashire’s history, and the landscape itself lends itself perfectly to horror.

“We wanted to take that history and explore it through a modern story that feels grounded and unsettling.

“More than anything, we want to help bring filmmaking back to Lancashire. There’s an incredible amount of talent here, and we hope this film is the beginning of bringing more productions and opportunities to the region.”

The twins began making films as teenagers in Blackburn before launching careers in film and commercial production.

Earlier this year, the twins invited the public to a casting call for their upcoming feature film Cotton Kings, with opportunities for leading and supporting roles.

Produced by Eleven Eleven Pictures, Pendle 1612 aims to showcase Lancashire as a prime location for future film and television projects.

The Bashford Twins hope the project will highlight the county’s potential as a production hub while telling a story rooted in its haunting past.
