Rabat – Moroccan golfer Adam Bresnu has won the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas, securing his first NCAA Division I individual title and an exemption into a PGA Tour event.
The Texas Tech senior finished the prestigious collegiate tournament at seven-under-par 203 after rounds of 69, 67 and 67 at Colonial Country Club on September 28 and 29. He won by one stroke ahead of Georgia’s JD Culbreth.
Bresnu entered the final round tied for the lead before closing with a three-under 67. After dropping a shot at the third hole, he produced three consecutive birdies from holes eight through 10 and finished with eight straight pars to secure the title.
“It feels amazing, an unbelievable feeling right now,” Bresnu said after the victory, describing the pressure of his final putts.
The 80-player field featured some of the leading names in American college golf, while 14 of the 16 participating teams were ranked inside the national top 25.
Bresnu earns place on PGA Tour
The victory also earned Bresnu an exemption into the 2027 Charles Schwab Challenge, allowing him to compete against PGA Tour professionals at the same course, Colonial Country Club.
The tournament is scheduled for May 24-30, 2027, according to the PGA Tour’s official calendar.
The Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG) described the achievement as a milestone for Moroccan golf. Bresnu is part of its “Road to the Tour” program, launched in 2021 to help Moroccan players combine university studies with high-level golf development in the United States.
Before the Ben Hogan Collegiate, Bresnu was ranked ninth in the PGA Tour University Ranking and 24th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, according to the FRMG.
His progress in the United States includes nine victories across two seasons at Odessa College and the 2025 Jack Nicklaus Award before he joined Texas Tech. He also became the first Moroccan to reach the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur Championship in August.
Bresnu has also competed successfully against professionals, finishing sixth at the 2024 PIF Saudi International and making the cut at the 2025 Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
His latest victory now guarantees him a PGA Tour start next May, marking another major step in his progression toward professional golf.
