The BBC has confirmed that the United Kingdom will not be competing in Eurovision Young Musicians 2027 in Latvia.
The United Kingdom will not be competing in the 23rd edition of Eurovision Young Musicians in Liepāja, Latvia. The BBC confirmed to ESC Spot that the United Kingdom’s public broadcaster will once again not compete in the contest.
The United Kingdom last participated in Eurovision Young Musicians in 2018 when BBC Scotland hosted the contest in Edinburgh. The BBC organised the inaugural contest in 1982 and competed in every edition up to 2010, before withdrawing from the competition.
Eurovision Young Musicians 2027 will take place on 10 July 2027 in Liepāja, Latvia. It will be the first time that the event is being held in consecutive years since the inaugural edition in 1982.
It was initially reported that Eurovision Young Musicians would now be held annually rather than biennially, as was previously the case. However, the EBU has since confirmed that the decision was taken after “consistent interest from EBU members” and the show will not necessarily be held every year, with a decision to follow at a later date.
To date, the following countries have confirmed their participation in Eurovision Young Musicians 2027:
