Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger directors Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern have exclusively discussed the new documentary with Far Out.

The directorial duo, who previously helmed Meet Me In The Bathroom, are the latest guests on Far Out’s video series, Existential Boozer, talking about everything from their happy places, which Gallagher brother is funnier, to how they’d like to die.

Ahead of Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger, arriving on Disney+ on October 9th, Southern and Lovelace also looked back on documenting the comeback, capturing their rehearsals, live shows, and the first joint interview given by Noel and Liam Gallagher in more than 20 years.

For the rehearsals, Lovelace and Southern weren’t in the room with Oasis, instead placing their cameras in the space and watching from another location in order to make the footage more authentic, which worked.

When asked by Far Out about their favourite Oasis track from rehearsals, Lovelace picked ‘Champagne Supernova’, not just because of the performance, but also as it meant their work would be done for the day.

“Probably ‘Champagne Supernova’, they rehearsed the set in order,” Lovelace explained, before Southern intervened to explain, “It was Liam’s exit song in rehearsals as well, he’s not one to stick around.”

Southern elaborated, “It’s got kind of a three-minute instrumental outro, so as soon as they hit that bit, he picked up his bag, and he was gone.”

Lovelace added, “Yeah, walked out the door as soon as the song was playing out, just for that kind of experience (it was my favourite rehearsal moment).”

His co-director agreed, before adding from a personal perspective that it was a signifier that their work was done, continuing, “We knew our day was coming to an end when we saw that. We weren’t in the room, because we didn’t want to interfere with them, we had all our cameras set-up and we monitored it from another space, just so there wasn’t a film crew annoying them, and it was as natural as possible, but yeah the moment Liam picked up his bags during ‘Champagne Supernova’ we knew it was almost time to go home.”

Elsewhere, in the discussion, Southern also shared his favourite moment from Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger, explaining, “There’s a moment with a kid, who must be 16 or 17, and the lights come up after the Cardiff gig is finished.”

The filmmaker continued, “He’s just there, looking like he’s been through every single emotion, and he’s looking around the stadium, his cheeks are red and his face is puffy, and he just gets this grin on his face just thinking about what he’s just been through. Then, this older guy, who doesn’t even know him, comes over, and gives him a hug… it’s such a kind moment.”
