Emma Reynolds is pressing Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to review opening hours at Wycombe Hospital’s Urgent Treatment Centre and improve access to X-rays.

She has also called for better referral arrangements after constituents raised concerns about urgent care services.

The trust has confirmed it received her correspondence and says further developments, including enhanced arrangements for winter, are expected to be announced shortly.

Ms Reynolds said residents wanted practical changes to make urgent care easier to access.

These included “reviewing opening hours, extending access to X-rays, improving referral pathways so patients are not forced to repeat long waits, and ensuring people can get the right care in the right place first time”.

The MP said she wrote to the trust last week, asking it to respond to the proposals and provide an update on any plans to review the centre.

“Protecting and improving local NHS services remains one of my top priorities, and I will continue backing the NHS Trust and making the case for better healthcare provision for our community,” she said.

Responding, the trust confirmed it would reply directly to Ms Reynolds “in due course”.

It said bookable appointments had recently been introduced at the centre to improve access and reduce waiting times.

However, its statement did not specify whether opening hours or access to X-rays would be extended.

A trust spokeswoman said: “We are committed to providing the best possible urgent care services for people in Wycombe and across Buckinghamshire, working closely with our NHS and local authority partners.”

The trust said it was considering findings and feedback from the recent Health and Adult Social Care Select Committee review as part of its work to assess how services could better meet residents’ needs.

“Alongside this, we are continually looking for ways to improve access, patient experience and the overall journey through our urgent care services,” the spokeswoman said.

“In recent weeks bookable appointments have been introduced at the Urgent Treatment Centre to help improve access and reduce waiting times, and we expect to be able to announce further developments, including enhanced arrangements for the winter period, shortly.”

The spokesperson added: “We know how important urgent care services are to local people and remain focused on ensuring patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.”

The move comes amid continuing calls for a full A&E service to be reinstated at Wycombe Hospital.
