The All England Club is not concerned at the prospect of influencers causing issues at Wimbledon because their military-trained security staff would like “nothing more than to sort them out”.
One of the biggest talking points during last month’s US Open was the disruption caused by social-media personalities, many of whom ignored tennis’s traditional etiquette in their bid to create content for their channels.
Richard Atkinson, the interim chief executive of the All England Club, was speaking at the Leaders Week conference at Stamford Bridge where he discussed the cultural difference between the Wimbledon and US Open crowds.
“If you’ve ever been to the US Open, it’s very New York City, right? It is mad, it is noisy, there’s all sorts of stuff going on,” he said.
“It’s dead easy for someone who just bought a ticket to show up there with ring lights and start broadcasting literally in the middle of the match.
“If you try to do that at Wimbledon, I think you’d probably have some Royal Marine Commando [stopping you]. We do have military there and they would like nothing more, I suspect, than to sort out some influencers.”
