The golf club is also one of Surrey’s oldest

The rolling hills and vast heathlands of Surrey make it quite the hotspot for golf. You’ll find courses across Surrey, but just one can say it is definitively one of the best; not just here, but across England.
St George’s Hill Golf Club has been ranked ninth in England for 2026 by the Top 100 Golf Courses. This positions it as the 85th best in the world.
The red and blue courses in Weybridge have been placed above prestigious clubs such as the Open-hosting Royal Liverpool, in a clear reflection of how much the experts appreciate the course, which is among Surrey’s oldest.
Top 100 Golf Courses is a UK-based independent media company that aims to review and catalog all the best golf courses worldwide. The company has standings for the top 100 golf courses globally, which it often updates.
A course which has consistently stayed in the good graces of the top 100 rankings though, is Weybridge’s very own; St George’s Hill.
The red and blue course known for their panoramic views over heathland are collectively ranked as the ninth best in England and the 85th best across the globe.
The heritage of St George’s Hill is a big reason behind the praise it received today. The course was designed by Harry Colt; a man seen today as the father of modern golf course architecture.
That is quite the moniker, more impressive when you consider that his hey-day was more than a century ago.
Designing St George’s Hill in 1911, his work in Weybridge is considered to be one of his best, alongside courses in Swimley Forest and Sunningdale.

The Top 100 Golf Courses description of St George’s Hill reads: “St George’s Hill Golf Club is one of the prettiest of the numerous heathland courses on the Surrey/Berkshire sand belt.
“It’s also one of the best. In 1911, a local builder came up with an original idea to build luxury fairway-side houses and, by chance, Harry Colt was the chosen architect.
“The course opened for play in 1913 and it is considered (alongside Swinley Forest) to be one of Colt’s greatest designs.”
The platform praises the views at St George’s Hill, suggesting they “sweep and undulate like a rollercoaster” and even “make your heart pound”.
The course starts with a 384-yard par four played from an elevated tee, straight down the valley. Next, a blind drive 458-yard par 4 back up over another hill.
Reviewers have a lot of praise for the course, with the Top 100 going as far as to say there “isn’t a single weak hole”.
At St George’s Hill, there are three loops of nine holes, called Red, Blue and Green. What is now a 27-hole course had previously been 36 holes. The main course is now made-up of the nine Red holes and nine Blue holes, while the Green line is shorter.
Surrey’s second best golf course is barely a few minutes away from its best. Walton Heath Golf Club’s old course is the 16th best in England according to the Top 100 rankings, being described as “where links golf meets inland golf”.
The heritage of St George’s Hill means it will likely remain in England’s best for some time. A large clubhouse which stands atop the highest point of a course, designed by one of the industry’s greats, is quite the description after all.
St George’s Hill Golf Club offer a variety of options for visitors and events. The member-owned club is considered to be among the most exclusive in Surrey, with visitation only permitted on certain days.
