Dixie – The Goal King will have its debut screening at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton on Friday, January 22, 2027, marking what would have been the 120th birthday of William Ralph ‘Dixie’ Dean, the Everton icon who remains one of the game’s most prolific strikers.
The debut screening comes during the centenary year of the 1927-28 season, when Dean set his still-unmatched record of 60 league goals in a single season.
The 70-minute documentary charts Dean’s journey from his Birkenhead roots and early days at Tranmere Rovers to his rise to fame with Everton and England.
He scored 440 goals in 497 matches across his English football career, which included spells at Tranmere, Notts County, and the national team.
The film is a FreeStand Films production, written and presented by Dean’s biographer John Keith and produced by Gillian Beattie.

It features previously unseen footage and photographs, and the only filmed interview about Dixie given by his eldest son, Bill.
Contributions from footballing greats including Gary Lineker, Duncan Ferguson, Mark Lawrenson, Ian Callaghan and Joe Royle also feature in the film, alongside members of Dean’s family.
Graeme Sharp, who also wore Everton’s No. 9 shirt and is second only to Dean in the club’s all-time scoring charts, features in the documentary and will appear live on stage at the Floral Pavilion.
He will join John Keith in conversation and take questions from the audience.
The documentary was filmed, directed, and edited by Michael Wishart.
It was made with the cooperation of Everton FC and the Dean family.
Tickets for the premiere are priced at £32, with concessions available for £27.
