Tom Hiddleston’s “breathtaking” new drama Tenzing had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival in September, before hitting selected US and Australian cinemas just last week. But now, UK fans can get in on the action, as the movie is available to stream for free worldwide.

Based on true events, Tenzing tells the story of Nepalese-Indian Sherpa climber Tenzing Norgay (Genden Phuntsok), who was the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest, alongside New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary (Hiddleston).

With the support of expedition secretary Jill Henderson (Caitríona Balfe), Tenzing persuades Colonel John Hunt (Willem Dafoe) that he deserves a spot on the British climbing team – having already served them on past trips.

“High above the world, empire, rank and aspiration fall away, leaving two outsiders bound by mutual respect and trust — and for Tenzing, the fulfillment of both a lifelong dream and a spiritual calling,” reads the synopsis.

Directed by Jennifer Peedom, the biopic is now available to stream from the comfort of your own home, having been released on Apple TV earlier today. If you don’t already have an Apple TV subscription, you can get a seven-day free trial, after which a full subscription will cost £9.99 per month.

You can also access the streaming service as part an Apple One membership, which includes Apple Music and Apple Arcade, plus expanded iCloud storage. A one-month free trial is available, with renewal prices starting at £18.95 per month.

Tenzing currently holds a near perfect score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes from 47 reviews. Critics praised the authentic storytelling, with Cinemalogue calling it a “well-deserved tribute”.

“This crowd-pleasing biopic doesn’t reach new heights from a narrative perspective. However, as a scrappy underdog saga, it’s both thoughtful and touching,” the review continued.

The Jam Report described the movie as a “handsome and heartfelt historical epic” that “finds renewed significance in whose story it chooses to tell”.

“Tenzing earns its inspirational fervor, but the reason it fits into the new wave of mountain-climbing movies is that the director, Jennifer Peedom… has staged it with a you-are-there authenticity that’s breathtaking but never showy,” Variety added.

Tenzing is now streaming on Apple TV.
