Residents had reported being unable to receive ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and associated channels including E4, Film4, ITV3 and ITV4 for several days, while BBC channels remained available.

The issue was raised at a meeting of Largs Community Council on Wednesday, October 14.

Arqiva, which provides the infrastructure used to deliver Freeview television signals, confirmed that an engineer attended the Holehouse transmitter site serving Largs and resolved a problem affecting one of the multiplexes carrying commercial television services.

The loss of MUX 31 and MUX 35 from the Largs Holehouse local transmitter, leaving only the BBC multiplexes operational, was believed to be the cause.

An Arqiva spokesperson said: “I understand that an engineer has attended the Largs Holehouse site and fixed an issue with one of the multiplexes, so your readers should have their channels returned.”

He explained that Freeview television services are delivered through aerials, with Arqiva providing the infrastructure that transmits the signal.

The confirmation will come as welcome news to viewers who had been left without access to a range of channels, prompting concerns and complaints from affected households.

Arqiva said anyone continuing to experience problems with their Freeview television service should contact Freeview on 03456 50 50 50 for assistance.
