Actor Kit Harington, who rose to global fame as Jon Snow in the hit series Game of Thrones, lived in Martley from when he was 11 to 18.

Despite its celebrity connection, the village has managed to maintain its peaceful, rural character.

Nestled between Worcester and the Herefordshire border, Martley is surrounded by rolling countryside, traditional homes and farmland, the kind of setting that offers both privacy and tranquillity.

Harington attended The Chantry School in the village and went on to Worcester Sixth Form College where he studied Drama and Theatre.

It also features a close-knit community centred around Martley Memorial Hall, a village shop and post office, and local schools and community groups.

Events and gatherings are a regular part of village life, reflecting its strong sense of community spirit.

Martley Cricket Club offers a relaxing place to watch cricket on Saturdays during the summer, with their first team playing in Division Three of the Worcestershire County League.

After moving back to London in 2005, Harington attended the Central School of Speech and Drama before making his professional debut in the acclaimed stage production War Horse.

He later became an international star through Game of Thrones and has since appeared in major film, television and theatre productions, including Marvel’s Eternals and the BBC drama Industry.

The small village is also known for its scenic walking routes, including paths through the nearby Knapp and Papermill Nature Reserve and across the Teme Valley, making it a haven for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

The Crown at Martley, a popular village pub, offers traditional food, local ales and a warm welcome to visitors and residents alike.

Farm shops and independent businesses in the surrounding area add to the village’s charm.

The village provides a slower pace of life, with the added benefit of easy access to both nature and nearby towns.

It’s a place where residents and visitors alike can enjoy the best of rural Worcestershire, whether that means a quiet walk in the countryside or a pint at the local pub.

While a celebrity connection might add a touch of intrigue, it’s the village itself that remains the real star.
