Roseanne Barr is on the hunt for a showmance with her new co-star.

Eight years after the 73-year-old comedian was exiled from her hit ABC show Roseanne over a series of racist tweets, the Emmy-winning actor is returning to the TV world with a new self-financed sitcom, Meemaw: A Modern Day Fable.

The single-camera show, which has yet to be picked up by a network or distributor, follows Barr in the lead role as a “patriotic grandmother who is the matriarch of a mixed-race prepper family in Texas,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Wednesday.

Barr’s sitcom co-stars Sopranos alum Drea de Matteo as her daughter, Omar Gooding as her son-in-law, and fellow Donald Trump supporter Randy Quaid as the local sheriff — who, spoiler alert, becomes her love interest.

“I’m in love with him and I wish he would leave his wife and marry me,” Barr told the magazine. She added: “I enjoyed making out with him so much that I wrote extra scenes where we would make out.”

Quaid, 76, has been married to his wife, Evi, for 37 years. Meanwhile, Barr has been with her boyfriend, Johnny Argent, since 2003.

In response to Barr’s praise, Quaid said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly: “Her show’s title should be changed to I LOVE ROSEANNE She’s luuuuscious…”

Barr described Meemaw as “the funniest s*** I’ve ever done,” telling THR, “I had a ball and I play a really wacky old lady this time.”

Roseanne was a smash hit during its original run from 1988 to 1997. The family comedy starred Barr, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and Michael Fishman.

The show was successfully rebooted in 2018, but spiraled into chaos when Barr was fired months after the premiere over her controversial tweets, one of which compared former President Barack Obama’s advisor, Valerie Jarrett, to an “ape.” She later apologized, claiming that she had been on Ambien while writing the post and that she did not know Jarrett was Black.

The reboot was brought back without Barr as The Conners, which aired its last episode in 2025.

Barr told THR that she is not in contact with any of her former co-stars, and that she was devastated when Fishman, who played her son on the original show, said earlier this year that Roseanne was “rightfully canceled.”

“Nobody is more brokenhearted than me,” she told the outlet. “I just choose to remember the fun and the good times. My son called Goodman and asked him to do a cameo on Meemaw and he declined.”
