The giant hound dog belongs to the Elvis Travel Service in Martlesham, who specialise in Elvis events and tours.
Named Hezekiah, it was left in the hands of the “teddy bear ladies” at The Repair Shop on BBC One.
Elvis Travel Service said: “They have done a great job in restoring Hezekiah and bringing the ‘old dog’ back to life. He is now ready to travel the UK at Elvis events, exhibitions and festivals as well as being the mascot for the Haemophilia Society, whom we hope to raise funds for.”
The hound dog was a gift from Elvis to his UK fan club. (Image: Strictly Elvis) The old dog made its first appearance in the USA in 1972 at the Hilton Las Vegas, with it being a gift to the British fans from Elvis Presley and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
There were also dozens of smaller dogs, which were thrown to eager fans in the audience; however, it is believed that Hezekiah is the only one of his left.
This year would have marked Elvis’ 90th birthday, which coincided with the Elvis: Direct from Graceland exhibition in London.
A spokesperson for Elvis Travel Service said: “Now 53 years old he was in desperate need of some TLC and therefore we wrote to The Repair Shop to see if there would be an interest in them bringing Hezekiah back to his former glory. The Repair Shop were very interested and loved the back story and of course the significant Elvis link, along with Colonel Tom Parker”.
The business has been taking thousands of fans to Graceland and Elvis’ shows since it was launched by David Wade in the early 1970s.
David still heads up the business, with them still holding events, including taking fans to Graceland and joining in with the annual Elvis Week events to mark the singer’s death in August.
The episode aired on BBC One on Tuesday, August 19.
