Last week, households across the town lost access to ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and associated services including E4, Film4, ITV3 and ITV4, while BBC channels remained available.

The issue was traced to a fault affecting multiplexes carrying commercial television services from the Holehouse transmitter serving Largs.

Infrastructure provider Arqiva said an engineer attended the site and fixed the problem.

However, the day after that repair was carried out, viewers contacted the News once again to report further interference and reception problems.

The News subsequently approached both Arqiva and Freeview for an update.

Despite assurances that a fault reported on October 16 had been rectified the same day, affected residents said difficulties continued and channels were not fully restored until Wednesday afternoon.

A Freeview spokesperson said: “We are not aware of any ongoing fault affecting the Holehouse transmitter.

A fault reported on 16 October was fixed by Arqiva the same day.

An engineer has subsequently made some additional adjustments and confirmed everything is working as it should.

As the operator responsible for the transmitter network, Arqiva is best placed to investigate any concerns relating to transmission performance and has carried out checks at the site.

Viewers experiencing reception difficulties should try retuning their equipment in the first instance, with further support available at freeview.co.uk/help.”

Arqiva, which operates the infrastructure used to broadcast Freeview signals, had previously confirmed that an engineer attended the Holehouse transmitter site and resolved an issue affecting one of the multiplexes serving the area.

The recurring disruption left some viewers without access to a range of channels for several days and prompted a number of complaints from local residents.

Viewers who continue to experience reception problems are being advised to retune their television equipment and seek assistance through Freeview’s customer support service.
