ITV Racing is back for more on Saturday with loads of racing from Doncaster and Cheltenham, starting here with a handicap over 5f. ANCIENT STATE is a decent eachway bet here for the in-form Adam Kirby and jockey Cieren Fallon. He goes well in the mud and was a fine fourth to King of Light at Haydock two runs ago in heavy, when he drifted left in the closing stages away from the favoured stands’ rail. He has every chance of reversing that form and gets 6f, which will help in the conditions.

A limited handicap chase over 2m4f. AS LEGENDS HAVE IT was getting his act together at the end of last season with wins at Stratford and Uttoxeter, including on soft ground, and his stamina will be an asset here. Ben Jones rides for Ben Pauling, and while my hope has gone up from 115 to 122 for those two successes, he might still have a little wiggle room on the mark. Obviously we just have to hope he’s fit on seasonal debut.

The big Flat race of the day is the Group 1 Futurity Trophy for juveniles over 1m. It’s very frustrating there are only seven runners as this would be a lovely eachway play race. I’ll chance BREACHER to hit the top two places mainly because I don’t think soft ground will be an issue and the other leading contenders are not proven in deep ground. Breacher was a distant third to Desert Castle in the Champagne last time, and will have to do much better than that. But the extra furlong will help, and he’s not going to be worried about the conditions. William Muir trains with Chris Grassick and Lewis Edmunds is on top.

Here’s a novices’ hurdle over 3m. I’m not absolutely convinced ROAD TO WEMBLEY will be a strong stayer at this trip even though he got home well on the Flat back in the day. That all said, of the horses who have been hurdling in here, none of them are really proven at 3m and my boy is fit and ready to go after a fine fourth at Worcester last month. He’s probably better than a 123 animal on his best Flat form. Hopefully he can use his Flat class here for Sean Bowen and Olly Murphy.

A Listed contest for youngsters over 6f. BENGAL TIGER is no good thing, but he bounced out and made all at Naas last time in a maiden on soft ground and he’s been showing improvement for the cheekpieces. He routed the opposition for that win and maybe he will be good enough for this for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.

Here’s a handicap hurdle over 3m. It’s always hard for GOWEL ROAD in handicaps like this and carrying 12st won’t be easy. That all said, he returns on a mark of 146, that he’s very capable of performing well off and he stays and goes on soft ground. The stable of Nigel and Willie Twiston-Davies has been having winners and they can get one ready. Sam Twisty takes the ride and I’ll chance him eachway.

A handicap chase over 3m1f. It’s hard to know what we will get from SHANNON ROYALE for Martin Keighley on stable debut and I’m sure he’s more of a cross country horse going forward. However, he’s got some nice staying handicap form, and if the rain churns up the ground and turns this into a slog, he might stay on better than most.

He hasn’t run since April, so fitness is taken on trust. Pulled up when last at this track, but he jumped terribly that day, and bled from the nose. Worth noting, though, he was 4-1 then against Katate Dori. So my selection is a massive eachway play. Freddie Keighley takes off 5lb from a decent handicap mark.

15:30 Cheltenham – Lord Byron

A conditions hurdle for 4yos over an extended 2m. LORD BYRON was behind North Shore and awful on seasonal debut at Chepstow. He’s got no chance on that form, but ran well at Punchestown, Aintree and here at the Festival last season, when fifth in the Triumph. I’ll chance him to bounce back with not much faith! Harry Cobden rides for Faye Bramley.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
