A future Warrington Wolves player will miss the remainder of the Rugby League World Cup group stages through suspension, as he joins two England Women’s players in this week’s judiciary verdict.
Fiji prop Mitchell Prest (pictured right in the above photo) has picked up his second charge in as many weeks, as he was again flagged by the disciplinary panel after the nation’s immense effort in defeat to Australia.
Prest and his Bati side pushed the Kangaroos all the way. With the scores level at 16-16 after 55 minutes, a disallowed Fiji try for obstruction, followed by a Tom Trbojevic score just 90 seconds later, proved to be the turning point of an incredible contest.
Castleford Tigers winger Semi Valemei scored a hat-trick in defeat, and he was joined by fellow Super League man Taane Milne on the try-scoring sheet. However, the Aussies somehow found a way, despite putting in a concerning performance as they look towards the semi-finals.
As a result of that game, Prest has copped a minimum of a one-match ban for a careless high tackle on Penrith’s Lindsay Smith. The incident occurred in the 75th minute of the game, and with the future Warrington man already being charged in week one of the tournament, his early plea has rised to a one-match suspension.
If Prest wants to plead his case and take the matter to a disciplinary panel, a guilty verdict would raise his punishment to two matches. Fiji aren’t yet out of the tournament – if they defeat New Zealand in week three, it would be them who take the final semi-final spot of Pool A.
The only other disciplinary charge in the men’s competition went to Tonga’s Latu Fainu, who received a warning for a careless high tackle on Lebanon’s Alex Conti.
