Between then and now, there have been limited updates – with James confirming in June this year that he was having “major life saving surgery” to extend his life.

Now, in this latest update, James provided positive news, saying: “Wow, what the hell happened? One minute you’re heading out on tour, the next thing you know you’re on the bench and out of the game.
“My condition was serious and the doctors told me I had a few years left to live.
“I’m happy to share now that my youngest brother, Chris, who stepped in for me on tour last year, has saved my life yet again. This time quite literally by donating me one of his kidneys.
“I can’t believe how much better I’m starting to feel already.
“I’m still going to need some time, but I wanted you to know that we’re both recovering from surgery just fine. My brother is a hero.”

As well as stepping in for James on the tour, Chris also appeared as the child scientist in the music video for Year 3000 back in 2002.
Chris also appeared alongside James in Son Of Dork, achieving two UK Top 10 singles: Ticket Outta Loserville (3) and Eddie’s Song (10).
During his absence, James continued to work behind the scenes. His musical theatre album for the Steven Sater project Murder at the Gates was released in July and was recently announced as a GRAMMY Award consideration for Best Musical Theatre album of the year.
