Helen Tweddle, 64, of Glamorganshire Golf Club in Penarth, chose Llamau as her captain’s charity for 2025-26, building on a relationship with the organisation that began more than a decade ago.
Back then, she opted to donate to a charity instead of sending Christmas cards, finding the issue of homelessness particularly moving during the festive season.
Over the past year, Ms Tweddle, supported by vice captain and ladies captain-elect Jen Harris, helped raise £5,050.25, including Gift Aid, through a series of events at the club.
The fundraising programme included a Ladies Charity Day, Captain’s Charity Day, charity golf competitions, Easter and Christmas fairs, raffles, and auctions.
Ms Tweddle and Ms Harris also attended Llamau’s 40th anniversary Impact Event at the Senedd on Wednesday, October 22.
The event brought together supporters, fundraisers, staff, and politicians to celebrate the charity’s work.
Ms Tweddle said: “Listening to the young people speak reminded everyone why fundraising matters.
“Their courage was remarkable and it was impossible not to be moved by their stories.
“The choir was a wonderful way to end the day, and it was lovely to see CEO Sam Austin singing alongside colleagues.
“She brings as much passion to the stage as she does to leading the organisation.”
She hopes the club’s fundraising success will inspire others to support Llamau’s mission.
She said: “Every donation, no matter the size, can make a real difference to somebody facing homelessness.
“If hearing these stories encourages even one more person to support Llamau, that would be a wonderful legacy from my year as Ladies Captain.”
