Hundreds of NHS websites across England and Wales are offline after their online provider entered administration “without warning”.

Software company Silicon Practice, which claims online to “proudly serve 1,000 websites” for GP practices, said it had been partnering with the NHS since 2005.

A notice of administration was filed by its parent company, Schappit Ltd, earlier this month.

Patients of GP surgeries in areas like London, Hertfordshire, Gloucestershire and Swansea received notifications on Wednesday advising them that the practices’ websites would no longer be available.

One message from Southgate Surgery, in North London, and seen by ITV News reads: “Our website (for routine issues only) is currently unavailable because our provider went into administration without warning.

“We apologise for the inconvenience. This is temporary while we find a new provider.”

The Southgate Surgery website currently shows an error code for a bad gateway when visited online.

NHS England confirmed GPs using Silicon Practice would be affected, but did not say how long for.

A spokesperson said: “While the majority of GP practice websites are running as normal, some practices which use Silicon Practice will be affected by the company going into administration.

“If your GP practice website is unavailable and you need help, you should contact your practice by phone or in person as usual.”

ITV News has contacted Silicon Practice for comment.
