A popular sports store has collapsed into administration after 12 years in business. J’s Cycle Shack, which had locations in Wakefield and Epworth as well as an online store, appointed administrators earlier this week according to a notice in the Gazette.
The stores specialise in bikes, repairs, cycling gear and other helpful services, whilst the online store also stocked running gear, nutrition supplements, trainers and much more. At the moment, no reason has been given for the appointment of administrators. The business was founded by James Wagner back in 2014, and what started as a small local bike shop turned into four stores and showrooms dotted around the country.
Currently, the stores in Wakefield, Leeds and Epworth are showing as ‘temporarily closed’ on Google, and the website features a message saying: “We are sorry that we’re currently unavailable but, fear not, we’ll be back soon.”
Another section of the website says: “Please note that we are not taking online orders at this time.” John Hedger of Seneca IP Limited has been appointed as an administrator.
When a company enters administration, creditors are legally prevented from taking any action against the company without the administrator’s or court’s consent. This includes winding-up petitions, bailiff visits and legal proceedings.
Following this, a company’s options are often reviewed to see what can be done. If there doesn’t appear to be a solution, then the company may end up going into liquidation, when a company’s assets are used to pay off its debts.

J’s Cycles also collaborated with local running and cycling clubs to host events and get more people involved in the sport.
The shops are hugely popular with customers, with many leaving very positive five-star reviews of the business on Google.
One person wrote: “I ordered a new bike J’s cycles and the service from Josh was nothing short of exceptional. He went well above and beyond to get me the exact bike I wanted and was so helpful and understanding in the process. He always tried to keep the cost as low as possible as well. Great service, great prices and wonderful staff. Very highly recommend.”
Another said: “Amazing service, bikes were delivered next day and everything as per order. The team was helpful and friendly throughout. Thank you!”
And a third commented: “Ordered a bike over the phone and Josh was really helpful throughout the whole process. Bike arrived so quickly and we are 100% delighted with it. We are London based but if I ever need to buy another bike, I will definitely use these guys again.”
