Peebles Lawn Tennis Club lease the courts and clubhouse at the town’s Victoria Park from Peebles Common Good Fund.
The club’s pavilion is an unlisted, single storey timber building with a rosemary tile roof.
Scottish Borders Council planners have now approved an application for the installation of 12 solar panels on the pavilion roof, split equally between the two roof planes.
Solar panels primarily provide clean, renewable electricity from sunlight, which lowers energy bills and reduces a property’s carbon footprint by cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
In his report approving the application, SBC planning officer Ranald Dods states: “The applicant undertook an ecological appraisal, given the type of roofing and the location close to parkland and waterways.
“That was assessed by the ecologist and, as no bats were found, the ecologist found the proposal to be acceptable. I have no reason to question that assessment.”
