Queensland Cup side Brisbane Tigers have confirmed the signing of playmaker Daejarn Asi after his release from Castleford Tigers.
Asi, 26, becomes the latest Castleford man to swap one Tigers team for another after former Cas head coach Ryan Carr was appointed as an assistant coach at Wests Tigers in the NRL.
However, for Asi, he’ll be playing in the Queensland Cup with Brisbane but he could well get a shot at playing in the NRL as the Tigers have been confirmed as the Q-Cup side affiliated with incoming NRL side Perth Bears.
Currently, the Bears have fellow former Super League man Toby Sexton as one of their starting halves for 2027 but should the Bears find their NRL start difficult then the club could well look to Brisbane Tigers and the ex-Castleford man may well find himself getting an NRL lifeline.
News of Asi’s move to the Tigers was confirmed by the club on social media with a short statement that simply read: “SIGNED. Daejarn Asi joins the Tigers in 2027.”

Daejarn Asi swaps Castleford Tigers for Brisbane Tigers as deal secured
Asi was one of several players to depart Castleford at the end of the 2026 season with fellow overseas player Joe Stimson also leaving. Stimson has since signed a deal with Temora Dragons, who play in the New South Wales Group 9 competition.

Sam Hall and Cain Robb also left Castleford, whilst Joe Westerman’s retirement was confirmed.
Asi left Castleford after two years at the club, playing an impressive 56 games across his two seasons, missing just one game in total. He’d score ten tries during his time in England and kick a further five goals for a points tally of 50.
The playmaker had arrived with big raps having made 42 NRL appearances and represented Samoa twice in the Pacific Championships as the starting half, however, he failed to make the desired impact during what has been a tough two years for Castleford as a team.
He’ll now get an opportunity in the Queensland Cup with Brisbane and a possible shot at an NRL return via Perth Bears.
