Critically acclaimed medical drama The Pitt has unveiled a first teaser for its upcoming second season, which premieres in January.

The footage offers a first look at returning actors like Noah Wyle as Dr. Robby, as well as new cast members who’ll be joining the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s emergency department in the new episodes.

The first season of the show, released earlier this year in the US, followed a long shift at an underfunded and understaffed hospital, with each of the 15 episodes covering about an hour of the shift. Although the teaser doesn’t give away too much of the plot, the new season is set to take place on the 4 July weekend following the same real-time format.

With a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, The Pitt is considered one of the best shows of the year. Last month, it received thirteen Emmy nominations, including for Outstanding Drama Series.

The show has struck a chord with viewers too, with some calling it the “best hospital series” of all time. “It’s been praised up and down by just about everyone and for good reason,” wrote one user on IMDb.

Along with Wyle’s Dr. Robby, other returning characters for season two include nurse Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa) and Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), who is back after his time in rehab. Student doctors Dennis Whitaker (Gerran Howell), Trinity Santos (Isa Briones), and Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez) are also coming back to the show.

Last month, HBO Max announced new major cast additions, including The Blacklist‘s Charles Baker as homeless patient Troy, Mozart in the Jungle’s Irene Choi as third-year medical student Joy, and Trauma actor Laëtitia Hollard as naive recent graduate Emma.

In the teaser, we also get a first look at Sepideh Moafi as Dr. Al-Hashimi, an attending physician joining the team from the VA.

The Pitt showrunner R. Scott Gemmill told Entertainment Weekly this week that the new season will explore themes of family, both in and out of the workplace.

“What the challenge of any workspace is, [is] balancing your work life with your family life. And some of our characters have families, some don’t, some are in the process of losing their family, some are having to learn new things about their family.

“So I think it runs the gamut in terms of both the families of our characters who we are with every day, but also the work family of all our characters who interact with each other.”

The Pitt season 2 will premiere in January 2026 on HBO Max in the United States. The show is not currently available to stream in the UK.
